The Point of All This

Marketing people, when helping you craft a message, will always admonish you to know your key points, and make sure your audience walks away with those points. Well, the two key themes for ItStartsWith.Us are these: People making a positive impact in the lives of others, and the “change the world” idea. But even these two themes can be summed up more simply with just one word: love.

This one-minute video captures the essence of what I want to accomplish with this site.

And that’s the point.

Video Credit: This is the opening scene of Love Actually — one of my favorite films. Check it out.

  • love truly can fix anything, given we cant pay the bills with love, we can smile and be happy sitting by candlelight when the power gets shut off because we are around those we love. Its a universal concept, where a heart entails all of the emotions that we forever are longing for. Love can make us feel wanted, needed and happy. Its such a complex emotion that is so easily evoked. So many songs, plays and books revolve around love. Its something that all people of the world can understand.

  • I love, love, love, love, love that movie! I`ve seen it hundreds of times, and am always forcing people to watch it with me :) It`s wonderful. I`ll be coming back here until I read it all :)
  • Mike
Best scene in all the world. Keep it goin' Nate.
from your bro in Milwaukee...the dodgy end.
  • Glad you could make an appearance here, Mike. I'm excited to interact with and learn from people who are helping to change this world for the better. Love the movie reference. :)
  • Hi Nate,

I just discovered your blog today and I really resonate with what I'm seeing here. We seem to share a similar philosophy.

That video was fantastic, and articulated a point I try to get across all the time. Cynicism is not a realistic stance at all. When people talk about "the state of the world" it always seems to be a pejorative remark. But I just don't see it like that.

I should mention though, that embedding for that video has been disabled, and you have to click through, I'm not sure if you are aware of that.

Anyway, I'm pleased to find your blog, you have a new reader.
  • Thanks, David. I've been looking over your site, and I really, really like it. Seems we talk about much of the same type of stuff. I'm now a subscriber, and I'll go through some more of your pages and shoot you an email in a few days.

I'll fix that video; thanks for letting me know.

    Thanks for reading!
  • This has long been one of my favorite movie scenes, and probably had more to do with shaping this vision than simply illustrating it.
