Wise Words

People are always telling me that my posts on this site are too long. I won’t disagree that they’re much longer than the attention span of the average reader, but I will say that each one means a lot to me, so I take my time writing them, and I don’t stop until I think I’m finished. This isn’t a two-second marketing pitch – it’s a heartfelt discussion around ideas that I’m passionate about.

This one’s going to be just a little different, though. I was looking through the New Member Bios section of our A-Team forum, and I came across this line from a senior at Ohio State:

I started thinking I could save the world around the age of 18. It’s taken a few years, but I’ve changed my mind. I don’t want to save it anymore. Just change it. One person at a time. Starting with myself.

And that’s today’s post. Succinct, meaningful, impacting. Perfect.

The world doesn’t need saving, friends. It just needs more people like us to start making some changes. Let’s get to it.

I could not agree more. The world does not need saving. It starts with us, if, as Ghandi said, we are the change we want to see, we'll see the world as perfect. We won't find the need to change it. It starts with us… YES!

Ooh, that gave me goosebumps!! I love this, and I think it's the *exact* attitude we all need to have. I realized a couple years ago that before I could make any big changes in the world around me, I had to change myself first. I had to learn that my dreams won't always be fulfilled, my goals won't always be reached, my efforts won't always be noticed, and my time won't always be spent wisely. But if I am able to change this world in one small way – through making someone smile, recycling a few plastic bottles, planting some trees, etc… then I can be happy, knowing that I have made a difference. And all those little differences may just add up to one very big difference. Thanks for sharing this, Nate! And thanks to the Ohio State senior! (Go Buckeyes!)
