This is a fantastic post and I don't think it's too long at all. I know Mari and think she's a doll (of course I only know her from Twitter) and I'm jealous that you got to meet her before I did.

I agree completely with what you say here and believe that success in the social media realm - of all kinds - only has to do what what kind of a person you are inside and how you use what you know to help others. Anything else is just marketing, and people are tired of being marketed to.

Great thoughts, clearly from the heart and very much appreciated.

I'm so happy to read your example of "Pay It Forward". My husband and I have been doing this for years. It's such an easy thing to do and what a great reminder for the car behind us that there is much generosity out there...

I also completely agree with the premise of your post; social media is simply a tool; people are way more fun. Jeffrey over at Beyond Freelancing wrote an excellent post about balancing online and offline. http://beyondfreelancing.com/2009/09/balancing-...

Thnaks for all you do!

I like you two. You're both do-ers. Props to both of you for delineating actionable steps to a larger purpose and goal. And then actually following through. :)

So when's your next trip to Chicago? I was only able to give you the concise, 10 minute tour. Next time there's much more to do!
