A couple of organizations that I admire and support are having big events this week, so I thought I’d use our time together today to talk about them a bit.
Daily Challenge
DailyChallenge.org is a group that operates on the same principles that we do here at ItStartsWith.Us. Check out their mission from the About Us page:
Our mission is to effectively utilize the tremendous power of social media to connect, inspire and mobilize people to create profound change through small and simple daily acts of kindness.
Through social media, DailyChallenge.org works to connect conscious individuals, responsible businesses and worthy causes, and empowers them to collaborate in creating greater change.
If you’re a fan of what I do with this site, I would really encourage you to go take a look at what they have going on. One of the things they offer is a spot where you can suggest daily actions that anyone can do to make a difference in their world. Very cool.
Earlier this year, Daily Challenge initiated “Pay It Backward Day” in Toronto, where they organized the world’s longest chain of people paying for the coffee of the person behind them. It was a simple, relevant message, and the proceeds went to benefit the SickKids Foundation. Here’s what it looked like:
The event was such a big success earlier this year, they’re doing it again on Wednesday. This time it’ll be bigger, better, with more sponsors, more prizes, and most importantly, it’ll raise more money to help the kids who need it.
Please visit the Pay It Backward Day event page to find out more. If you’d like to learn more about the people they’re helping with this project, check out this video.
12for12k
Those of you familiar with my project have probably heard me talk about 12for12k before — it’s a group of people headed up by Danny Brown, with the goal of raising $12,000 for a different charity every month of this year.
This month they’re campaigning on behalf of Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization. What I really like about this group is that they operate independently of any political, military, or religious agendas . . . they just go where the need is and help out.
This Tuesday, starting at 12:00am (so really, it starts late late Monday night) and going through until midnight, 12for12k is doing a global 24-hour event, with interactions from people in 159 countries around the world. There is far more detail than I have space to record here, so I’ll just direct you over to their Go Global 24 event page for more information.
Even if you don’t plan on participating in either one of these events, please make a quick visit over to their websites and poke around for a minute or two. Both of these organizations do good things for others every single day, and they are quite worthy of our attention.
If you’d like to get in touch with either of the groups, you can speak with:

Oh, and if anyone else wants to give a shoutout to their favorite charitable or “social good” organization, please drop a comment and let us know about it…
